Yes. I've done 1, 2 and just from not playing 3 I missed a lot, if I hadn't played 2 then it would have been pointless. You can get the MGS encyclopaedia on PSN, but it's still not quite clear, it's more useful if you've already played 2 and 3 and you want to double check on something.

It obviously won't affect the play of the game, but the cut-scenes, which in terms of duration are as long, if not longer than the play time, won't be as good as they could be.

ok, I've nearly finished collecting stuff in RDR. So I think it's time to go back and make a start on MGS 2.
No chance of getting to MSG4 in time even if it wins, but I really enjoyed the first one and always meant to the play the others eventually.

Not at all. It's a great game regardless of how much you know. Each game can be taken on it's own or as part of a bigger series.

You should definitely check it out mate, for sure

I could not disagree more, sorry. Metal Gear Solid 4 plays massively off the other games, probably 3 most of all, but I was able to get the real gist of it all from playing 2. If I hadn't played either then the games story wouldn't flow. It's hard enough to follow as it is.

I wouldn't recommend rushing into MGS4 just for the replay podcast, seriously, take your time, play and enjoy all the MGS games in order.

jesus christ dude. The game was designed with new players in mind. It has it's own beginning middle and end and while it's part of the huge MGS universe it's also very unique. Everything you need to know it given in MGS4. Just as in each installment in a trilogy has to be it's own story, the same is true here. Which is also why they released that digital novel at the same time.

You can also play Metal Gear 4 and then go back to 2. Never heard of the concept of a prequel and non-chronological narrative?

I would definitely play 2 and 4 before playing Rising for sure as it fills in the period between them, but MS2 was about Raiden and MGS 4 is Snake. You havent played MGS3 right?

Well it looks like Metal Gear Solid 4 has this in the bag! More than double the votes. At least it's a good game :).

No replay for me this month then. Think I'll go with some tactical voting and switch from the un-loved Lost over to Shivering Isles...

It's Bourne for me, always fancied it but never got round to picking it (even though i saw the special edition in game for £4.99) but looks like it's not going to make a difference to the vote.

Any game coming second carries over to next month, so no vote is wasted as such,

Being a big MGS fanboy I can't wait to hear this. I just wonder if the online segment of the game's gonna be mentioned much though because it was pretty innovative in alot of the things it tried but massively failed due to some of Konamis decisions in it's implementation.

I'm also slightly ashamed to say I had about 1000 hours on MGO and got to the semi final of the European Championships. Don't tell anyone

I'd realy be honoured to but as I've never done anything like it before there's a massive fear I'd just fail even though its a subject matter I could talk about for hours. I'm bad enough at speaking to strangers in real life. Is it Skype that ye use? Depending on when recording is I may be able to psyche myself up but I dunno. Fear and nerves are a terrible thing

It's a shame that anyone logging into MGO for the first time now would be faced with a 2.5 gigabyte patch to download or else I suppose you guys could check it out yourselves.

Replay is a pretty informal show but if you didn't think you'd be up to being a full guest then you could always just have a recorded chat with Dits or Xan about that aspect of the game that they could drop into the show.

It is just a conference call that we record really. You would be more than welcome to join us and share your thoughts. You can use Skype + Headset or we can also call you on a landline.

I think that could be the way to go as a quick wee banter wouldn't be too much a waste of anyones time if it's dull and it's easy to be ommited. I think I'm just being overly harsh on myself for no good reason though, heh. I can send some of the general stuff that deserves to be mentioned by PM or something to Xan or whoever else it's neccesary to do so with just so you can decide whether it could be worthwhile or not.

Hopefully some of you guys did play it atleast a little bit when it first came out but if anyone can be bothered to download the 2.5 gb patch then it could be nice to have a wee community session. The patch can't be downloaded in the background though, it's bit of a hassle.

I love this guy! I bought Subsistance day of to train for a tournament but never got anywhere near good enough. Plus I couldnt get my PS2 online for love nor money.

I definitely want to be on the podcast for this one and I would appreciate another MGS geek to be on with me! :D

Just copy what I do! Repeat everything you say atleast twice, say 'fabulous' and 'fantastic' and end every sentence with 'so....' and talk about stuff noone else cares about! Its super easy mate :D

If you do want to be on the show add me to skype and we can have a chat before hand. There are a lot of aspects I want to talk about that hopefully noone else will have noticed but they agree on. Its such a gargantuan game there is so much to get your teeth into.

So how do we sign up to be on the show?

You are both very welcome. It is always good to have a broad range of views, and especially possitive feedback on the month's game. I'll pencil in the recording day and time soon and PM folk.

@Tenia I have replied to your PM. Thanks :)
